Sure enough, the bird pounced at Anne. She swung the bat and it made a sickening crack. Sara clutched the golf club, her knuckles turning white. Anne looked at her and grinned.

"See! I told you they were attacking!" She stepped towards the bird, taking cautious steps. She prodded it with bat, and to her delight, it didn't move. Sara walked over slowly. She looked at it and looked surprised.

"Hey! That looks like a dodo!" she said, wondering why there was one here. "But dodos are extinct..." She looked at Anne, who shrugged. Suddenly, two more dodos appeared and lunged at them. Anne swung at one, but the bird dodged it and clawed her with it's talon. Anne dropped her left arm from the bat. It had a fairly deep gash. She growled and attacked the bird with her the bat, now in her right hand only. When she had successfully pulverized it, she smiled.

Sara had swung the golf club, bringing it down on the dodo's head. It fell to the ground, but it was still moving. She swung at it again, this time, it didn't move. She glanced over at Anne, who was bleeding.

"Quick! Into the house!" she said, dragging Anne inside. They went into the bathroom to clean up her wound. Sara began to dig through the cupboard under the sink, looking for something to clean Anne's cut. "Hey..." she said, trailing off, deep inside the cupboard. "What's this?" She saw a little shape of a snake on the pipes to the sink. She poked it and to her surprise, it opened. "Anne!" she said, coming back out. "There's a big tunnel in here!" Anne raised an eyebrow and looked under. There was a tunnel!

On a dark and stormy night, minus the storm, a teen age girl sat at her computer. She was busy talking to people online and playing video games. Her name was Anne. Anne got off the computer and sat on her bed, all her attention on the game. Oddly enough, a tapping noise seemed to be coming from her window. She ignored it for a while, being very engrossed in her game. It became louder and more frequent, so she finally got up to look. What she saw made her jump and swear loudly. There was a giant bird outside her window!

"What the hell!?" she yelled, stepping back from the window. The bird glared at her evilly through the glass. To her horror, it began to peck at it. The glass began to crack. Anne screamed and grabbed her lamp threateningly. The window shattered and the bird jumped through her window. Anne swung at it viciously, sending it across the room. She was relieved when it didn't move. She quickly got dressed into some jeans and a black tank top. She threw on her shoes and grabbed a black zip hoodie.

She ran out of her room and into her brother's. Her whole family was out of town, so she was home alone. Once in her brother's room, she grabbed a wooden baseball bat that he had in there. With a weapon now in hand, she raced out the front door. She looked around in horror at her neighborhood. Many houses were on fire, car alarms were going off, and people were running around screaming. She watched as more than one person was taken down by the birds. She turned and ran as fast as she could towards her friend's house. She figured she should warn her.

She had the worst cramp in her side, when she reached her friend Sara's house. She ran over to the girl's window and banged her hand on it. Sara came to the window and groggily opened it. "Anne? What are you doing? Why do you have a bat?" she asked, rubbing her eyes. Anne shook her head hastily.

"No time! Get dressed and get out here! I'll cover you!" she held up the bat, daring any birds to come near her. Sara, still having no idea what was going on, got dressed in a forest green evening gown. She quickly slipped on her running shoes and hopped out the window. Anne stared at her.

"That may not be the most practical thing to wear, you know," she said, raising an eyebrow. Sara shrugged. Anne came back to her senses. "Oi! You need a weapon!" she said, waving her bat. "C'mon, let's go look in your garage." She led the way to the garage and opened the door. After searching for a few moments, she finally held up a golf club. "Here," she said, handing it to Sara, "this will work just fine." Sara took it, staring at Anne.

"Why do I need a golf club?" she asked, utterly confused. Anne bit her lip and glanced around to make sure there weren't any birds around.

"Well, I was up playing video games, and all of the sudden I hear a tapping. I go to look and there's this huge bird! It came through my window and attacked me! I managed to kill it or knock it out with my lamp. I got outside and my whole neighborhood is overrun!" she said, glancing over her shoulder. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted a fat little shadow. She narrowed her eyes and held the bat defensively. "Look out," she whispered to Sara, "there's one on the left."

The dodo. An extinct species of flightless bird. It was driven to extinction when it was discovered by sailors in the 17th century. So their story is over, is it not? Unfortunately not. I shall tell you the story of why this is unfortunate.

Far off on some remote island in the Pacific, is where our story starts. A team of scientists had been working on trying to clone dodos from the DNA of a long dead specimen. How they got this specimen is unknown. The slightly disturbing fact about the scientists wanting to create new dodos is that they got the idea from the book/movie Jurassic Park. You and I know how well that turned out. At first the scientists had some problems, but they eventually succeeded in creating a dodo chick. This is how the story begins...
